The sounds included here were collected using SONICORDER Deluxe and a Sony M1-DAT recorder. With the exception of the "Philly Cheese" recording, the following equipment was used: DPA 4022 microphones>Grace Design Lunatec V2 microphone pre-amp>Benchmark 2402 (formerly known as SONIC AD2K+)>Sony C1VN for 24-bit and Sony D-8 for 16-bit NS3 word-length reduction. In all of these recordings, both devices took a feed from the 2402. Following the recent Stanley Cup victory of the Colorado Avalanche, I walked around the Pepsi Center Arena, a nearby sportsbar called Brooklyn's, and drove through the outskirts of downtown Denver while people celebrated in the streets. From this event, we made the recordings titled "Hogs Horns and Hollers" "Horns and Helicopter" and "Crowd Cheer." Earlier in the week, we attended a street fair and collected the recording called "PhillyCheese," which as the name indicates, is steak frying on grill. The recording was made in the same manner as the above, but a SONY M-1 portable DAT recorder was used with a direct analog connection from the Lunatec V2. Please open each .wav file, identified with a 16 or 24 suffix for word length, using Sound Forge 5.0, Wavelab, or another 24-bit capable software package. Please note the extreme dynamic range achieved and during the quietest parts, the true benefit of 24-bit recording is fully realized. The material is still smooth, detailed, and natural sounding. In the louder segments, the wide variety of concurrent events remain clearly distinguishable. Marc Nutter Sonic Sense, Inc.
